Printer problems, explained plainly

No jargon, no forum threads about somebody else's printer. Each of these answers one thing in the first paragraph.

Your Mac says the printer is offline, but it's switched on

How to tell whether the fault is at the printer or at your Mac — the one thing nobody can work out for themselves, and it decides everything else.

Your Mac shows the same printer twice

One printer, two listings, and usually only one of them works properly. Which to keep, and why the other ruins your printing.

Your printer prints blank or faded pages

Three causes, in the order worth checking. The first two cost a minute.

If none of that helps, write to me

There is no support desk and no ticket number — it is one person, and the address is below. I read everything.

It helps if you say what your printer is (the make and model, from the front of the machine) and what PrinterAI told you. A photograph of the screen is perfectly good — you do not need to type it out.

I reply within two working days. If your printer will not print and you are stuck now, the three guides above cover what I would tell you first anyway.

Cancelling the paid assistant

The subscription is managed by Apple, not by me, so it is cancelled the same way as any other: Apple menu → System Settings → your name → Media & Purchases → Manage → Subscriptions. Cancelling stops the next payment; the rest of the app carries on working, free, exactly as before.
